The problem

Financial coaching needs more than a shared spreadsheet.

Household budgeting becomes harder when planning, purchases, and repayments happen in different places. Family Ledger creates one calm workflow where a family member can build independence while a parent retains the right level of oversight.

Product decisions

01

Separate roles

Member and Parent views expose only the decisions each person needs to make.

02

Review, don't police

Payment requests can be approved or returned with a correction instead of silently changed.

03

Plan forward

Monthly plans, rollover choices, and smallest-balance-first debt tools turn activity into progress.

Engineering

A small product with serious boundaries.

I designed and built the product experience, responsive interface, authentication flow, data synchronization, database policies, and notification system. Supabase Auth and row-level security isolate household data; Realtime keeps devices current; revisioned writes guard against accidental overwrites; and the installable PWA can deliver web push alerts.

What I learned

The workflow is the feature.

The most valuable part of Family Ledger is not another financial dashboard. It is the explicit handoff between two people: plan, act, request, review, and learn. Designing around that relationship made the technical boundaries clearer too.
